    Main article start here:

Is there such a thing as real witch? The fact is, the answer is yes – and anyone can become a real witch in real life if they want to.

Before we discuss how to be a witch further, let’s shed some light on just what we’re talking about. What exactly is a real witch? Are they old hags with magical powers like the ones we read about in fairy tales or see in horror movies? Are there good witches, as well as bad witches? Do real witches have real magical powers? Can they cast spells?

Well, to understand all this you first need to know about a religion called Wicca. Wicca is a pagan belief system, meaning it predates or is older than Christianity and the other mainstream religions of today.

It also means that Wiccans worship a multitude of gods, most of them nature gods. It would be accurate to say that Wicca is a “nature religion.” Wicca itself means “craft of the wise.” Those who practice Wicca say their religion is among the oldest – if not thee oldest – spiritual practice in the world. There is some truth to that, although the situation is somewhat more complex, but we don’t need to get into that here.

Members of Wicca identify themselves as witches. Men can be witches, but they also sometimes achieve the status of “wizard” or “warlock.” The latter is essentially a male witch.

Before we go on, here is an extremely important note: Wicca is a real religion, not merely some kind of fun and games club invented by a bunch of people who dig this kind of stuff. It’s not like, say, Dungeons and Dragons, for example.

Wicca is officially recognized as a legitimate religion by the U.S. Government, meaning that Wiccans enjoy the same tax-free status as other religions. Wiccans are protected as a religion by our society under the First Amendment.

It is also extremely important to understand that to be a witch within Wicca has nothing to do with Satanic rituals – in fact, Wiccans do not recognize Satan as real. They consider the concept of Satan to be an “invention,” or part of the mythology of other religions, especially Christianity.

Two of mottos of the Wiccan faith are: “Harm none,” and “Blessed be.” In short, Wiccans and witches see themselves as good moral people who do good things.

So if you decide to join the Wiccan religion, it is possible for you to become a witch – a real live witch. While the requirements may vary from coven to coven, it generally takes a year of study before you are accepted as a member of the Wiccan faith.

Incidentally, a “coven” is roughly the equivalent of a church or congregation for Wiccans. Just as a priest of minister is head of a church, a “witch” tends to be the head of a coven, although that’s not a requirement.

So, do Wiccans or Wicca witches perform real magic spells, and do these spells actually work. Again, this is a complex question and it would not be advisable to answer it in a yes or no manner. Witches of Wicca practice a wide variety of magic spells, charms, rituals and other esoteric rites which they believe work, and have value in terms of how they define it for themselves.

So if you want to know how to become a witch in real life, one way is to take up a study of Wicca, decide if this ancient religion is for you, and join as a member. You’ll be on your way to becoming a witch.
